Royal Talons

Royal Talons of Denver Colorado have just released their debut ep on Handshake Inc, although the songs had technically already been released on the bands own bandcamp page back in 2011. Overall its a phenomenal sludge/stoner release that is massively big sounding. While at times I wish they wouldn't succumb to the temptation to rely on guitar effects and stick to their expansive riffing, the huge sound and trio of vocals makes for a pretty rad sounding album.

  1. This reminds me of the glory days of sludge (Damad). The vocals remind me of modern-day Kylesa and Baroness, but the riffs are so much better than what those two bands are currently shitting out. Overall, I like it. I probably won't listen to it on repeat, but it'll slip into my rotation every once and a while. Thou is still better.

  2. There is some nice vocal diversity on the album overall too which is always nice. I bet these guys get picked up by a bigger label soon.
